Schedule of restrictive covenants

Not sure if this is the correct forum to ask this question.  My Step son has bough an old Bungalow ( 1920s ) and there is a covenant on it .

Part of the covenants mentions..

Schedule of restrictive covenants Planting a quickset hedge on the said land adjoining the said ditch in accordance with his covenant here in before contained) at all times there after keep and maintain the said hedge properly trimmed to a uniform height of Five feet..

The property does not have a HEDGE but  a line of tallish trees about 15t high. It has been like this for many years so he has been told. However, a neighbour who backs onto the property want him to cut down all the tree to a height of 5ft as they have also accessed the covenant.

In another part it mentions a FENCE…

So, is a line of establish tree which do NOT overhang that neighbours garden and not blocking any light into their house which is some 80ft away from the trees is classed as a HEDGE or FENCE

Thanks for taking the time to read this
